Moving a QBO Client to Wholesale Billing

Wholesale billing represents a 50 percent savings over the standard monthly subscription cost for QuickBooks Online Essentials, Plus (and soon) QuickBooks Self-Employed. 

This discount is only provided to QuickBooks ProAdvisors, and wholesale billings auto-draft from the ProAdvisors' account every month. 

The 50 percent wholesale billing savings is extended to Payroll subscriptions as well, but not the "per employee" fee that remains the full $2 per employee charge.

Let me give you a couple of examples when wholesale billing is a good fit:

  1. Clients with on-going monthly services
  2. Clients with multiple QBO companies

Some ProAdvisor, bookkeeping and accounting firms derive part of their revenue from subscription fees, and the wholesale price of 50 percent off retail pricing is an easy place to find a slice of revenue.

If your firm bundles the client's QBO into the other services you provide, the wholesale pricing definitely is where you want to get all your clients enrolled.

How to Move a Client to Wholesale Billing

1. From your QBOA dashboard, click the Gear Icon, then select Your Account

2. Choose, move clients to wholesale

3. Select the Client(s) to move to wholesale billing; from the list of client billing details, place a check mark next to the client you wish to move to wholesale billing

4. Confirm the client(s) to move and click the green Move Clients button

They now are setup for wholesale billing.

Pending Client Companies – If the client has been paying his own QBO subscription, the wholesale billing will not take effect until the start of his next billing cycle that's unpaid.

You will see those clients' pending status in your account (shown above).

Removing Clients from Wholesale Billing

Wholesale billing is a lot like the perfect pair of jeans, it's all in the fit. Sometimes, what looks like a great pair of jeans just don't fit. The same can be said of wholesale billing.

Thankfully, the process of removing a client from wholesale billing practically is as painless as switching them to wholesale billing.

  1. From your QBOA dashboard, click the Gear Icon, select Your Account
  2. Reverse the process by selecting the client's name within the list of your wholesale clients.
  3. Click remove from Wholesale
  4. The client will receive an email from QuickBooks in which he's notified he'll need to provide payment information for their subscription

Like I said, wholesale billing is all "about the fit." With a good fit everyone is happy, with a bad fit nobody is happy. Just like a great pair of jeans, we all love a perfect fit.
