It's so cold in Toronto even the internet is frozen, would you believe that? I didn't think so, still the same, I'm slow even if the news isn't... that's why you are just now today (Wednesday) reading a story Liz sent from QBC-CA Monday afternoon. Well, Liz arrived in Toronto in plenty of time to hear the crowd at QuickBooks Connect roar to the excitement of an announcement made by Melika Hope, the Sr. Product Manager for QuickBooks Canada, when she told the audience that they were introducing a new Sales Tax feature. (Murph)
Liz went on to report:
Melika told everyone that she fully understands the importance of being able to calculate and report sales tax and that she was delighted to share the fabulous features associated with this new module. One of the big changes is a new dashboard that shows only the most relevant sales tax information. What remains is a very clear indicator of the status of the sales tax return which allows visibility of what is done and not done. This results in key actions being available to the user to help them process their sales tax returns faster.

Sales tax returns have been a tremendous area of concern for accountants, bookkeepers and ProAdvisors in Canada, and it's now one of the biggest areas of progress for Intuit Canada and QuickBooks. With this new module, users will be able to:
- Pay multiple sales tax filings with a single payment.
- Match sales tax payments to their bank feeds.
- Add interest and penalties to payments on the fly.
- Make flexible payment adjustments to liabilities after the fact. (Permits the total to stay the same while changing how the funds were allocated)
- E-file sales tax payments directly with the Canadian Revenue Agency via QuickBooks Online.

Esther Friedberg Karp, a Canadian and US Certified Advanced QuickBooks ProAdvisor, and past winner of Insightful Accountant's 'International ProAdvisor of the Year' Award told Liz, "There is so much room for error with processing sales tax manually. Using the end-to-end solution built into the new sales tax module means Intuit is now doing all the heavy lifting for us."
While we here in the USA may not understand how big a deal this is, this is a very big win for QuickBooks Canada and brother and sister accountants, bookkeepers, and ProAdvisors of the 'north country.' In fact, I would venture to guess that everyone in the audience immediately went on to the website to sign-up for the 'exclusive early access' when Melika flashed the URL up on the big screen.

Editor's follow-up:
Just remember who has won the last two 'Firm of the Future' awards, Canadians. And just remember who has won more 'International ProAdvisor of the Year' awards than any other country, Canadians. So when you are going, "what's such a big deal about 'a sales tax module,' just ask yourself, "can our sales tax module, do all that?"
