Tell us about how you got started in the business.
In 1996 I had a small business and I managed several high net worth families. I purchased QuickBooks and taught it to myself in order to track financial information for reporting purposes. When my kids were in school full time, I went back into the workforce as a controller for an Aviation Insurance company. The accounting firm that serviced the company recognized that I was really good with QuickBooks and recruited me to be the in-house QuickBooks trainer for the firm. I saw a huge opportunity to work with clients in regards to training, as well. I was able to build a large QuickBooks consulting practice. BDO acquired the regional firm that I was with in January 1, 2015. BDO was in the processes of building a leadership team to move the outsourcing and advisory services forward and I was fortunate to be asked to lead the technology team.
