During the fall meeting of the American Institute of CPAs governing Council, the organization named two recipients for its "2017 Gold Medal Award of Distinction," including George W. Krull, Jr., CPA, CGMA, and Bruce Webb, CPA.
The American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) is the world’s largest member association representing the CPA profession, with more than 418,000 members in 143 countries, and a history of serving the public interest since 1887.
The "Gold Medal Award of Distinction," given since 1944 to CPAs who have made extraordinary contributions to the profession, is the highest accolade the AICPA can bestow.
In presenting the award, Jack Finning, a member of the AICPA awards committee, said, “Bruce Webb has significantly contributed to the growth and success of the accounting profession throughout his distinguished career.”
Finning said that Webb is a dedicated and passionate volunteer whose foresight and leadership created significant positive changes in the CPA practice environment, always in support of the public interest and the profession. Over the years, Webb has applied his expertise to more than 20 volunteer groups during his years of service with the AICPA.
Of Krull, Finning said, “Throughout his career, George has helped define the future of the CPA profession through his passion for educating its next generation.”
Over the years, Krull has served on numerous AICPA committees, including Computers and Information Systems, Continuing Professional Education, Education Management Exchange Subcommittee, Professor/Practitioner Case Development Program and Pre-Certification Executive Education.
In addition, Krull was involved in the AICPA Foundation and the Accounting Doctoral Scholars program, and the AICPA's Diversity and Inclusion Commission.
A list of previous recipients is available on the AICPA’s Gold Medal awards page.
