Editor’s Note: In a recent Insightful Accountant audience study, we asked some members of the 2021 Top 100, including the "ProAdvisor of the Year" – Mariko Hayashi-Hall, to give us some of the strategies they use to stay on top of their games. Following is another in a series of their insights—information you can use to help set the blueprint for your practice’s strategy.
In a recent audience study, 37% stated "Their Own Productivity" was a top challenge. What do you do to remain productive and grow as a practitioner?
Alicia Katz Pollock, RoyalWise Solutions Inc: I have no trouble staying productive. I love all my daily tasks and get inspired by the big projects I take on. It is giving myself permission to take downtime that is my biggest challenge.
I even have an under the desk treadmill, which I walk on while I work to save time. Stop laughing at me.
Nancy D'Amato, The Bottom Line: That's a toughie after so long in the industry and 30 years owning my biz. I check-in with myself throughout the day to make sure I'm staying on track. I have lists, and on some days, those lists have lists (or so it seems). But I always have a short list of three to five items that are “today,” and I make sure to get those done if at all possible.
Susan Cook, Account Ability Consulting: For me, it is about continuing my education, using the correct tools at my disposal, and being able to establish and maintain good habits with the use of my time.
