In earlier versions of QuickBooks Desktop, seeing a customer’s invoice history has been limited to the related payment(s) information displayed within the Invoice History from the Reports ribbon of the Invoice form.

QuickBooks Desktop 2019 versions (Pro, Premier and Accountant) as well as QuickBooks Enterprise (v19) give you a more complete picture of the history of any Invoice by simply clicking on the 'See History' link to the right of the transaction form name (as shown below). On every invoice you will be able to see the date created, the due date, the date the related Payment is received, and the date that payment is Deposited.

If you use the ‘Send Invoices’ feature within QuickBooks, you will also see the date and addresses of the email, and the date when your customer ‘viewed’ the invoice (shown below). QuickBooks accomplishes this by embedding a ‘cookie’ within the email you send in order to track the receipt and read status, much the same as if you add a ‘Delivery receipt’ and ‘Read receipt’ request when using Microsoft Outlook for your email.

This new feature gives you the ability to see near real-time status tracking of each of your receivables, but you must have an internet connection to make use of the ‘send and view invoices’ capabilities. You must also be using one of the QuickBooks supported email options configured under ‘Send Forms: My Preferences.’ Be aware that email-related tracking functions associated with this feature do not work if you are using Microsoft Outlook 2010.
