Progress Invoicing has been a long-anticipated feature in QBO. Last fall, we were able to preview Progress Invoicing in QBO Labs. And now… as promised we have the feature live in QBO Plus.
When Progress Invoicing was announced I wrote two articles covering 'how it worked' (Part 1) and many of 'the details and alternatives' (Part 2). Both articles remain true in terms of the live version that is now available, so follow the links to see the specifics we covered last November.
To recap briefly, QBO Progress Invoicing has several options which allow for invoicing a percentage, custom or remaining open balance. Since there are multiple options you might want to use my articles as a reference guide when you area explore Progress Invoicing.
Turning-on Progress Invoicing (now that it is live)
Previously Progress Invoicing was a 'QBO Labs (Beta)' feature and it was activated from the QBO Labs options, but now that it is live we have to turn it on from the standard Settings (preferences) for QuickBooks Online Plus. At the present time this feature is only available to QBO Plus subscribers within the United States.
To activate Progress Invoicing:
1) Select the Gear Icon,
2) Choose Account/Settings
3) Select the Sales tab on the left
4) Under Progress Invoicing check the box 'Create multiple partial invoices for a single estimate'
5) Click the green 'Save' button. Progress Invoicing will now show a status of 'On'.

Once on, you can view and use the feature after creating an Estimate and then choosing one of several Progress Invoicing options.
