This is a long holiday weekend for many, in fact many of you will have already started your weekend by taking today (Friday) off, or perhaps taking off at noon today... others may hardly take time to ready our features today, and especially this article... but I do want to wish you a Happy 4th-of-July and give you 'my 2-cents' regarding Independence Day.
Independence is defined as the condition whereby a person, a nation, a state or a country exercises self-government, autonomy and sovereignty over themselves. No matter what we think 'independence' doesn't come independently... we only independence because of those who have fought and given their lives to gain our independence and to maintain it. So while we celebrate our 'independence' on the 4-of-July each year here in the United States we should always remember that there is a price for that independence, it does not come free.
Many of you will take a vacation to celebrate July 4th, others will enjoy the festivities of this summer holiday with fireworks, parades, family gatherings, barbecues, picnics, baseball games, ceremonies, and political speeches at governmental monuments and cemeteries.
Last year COVID-19 interrupted many such festivities, and celebrations... we were stuck inside watching our televisions to see 'virtual firework displays' or even 'virtual celebrations'. Some had only limited gatherings of just immediate family, under the 'coverage of mask'.
This year we celebrate another type of independence, independence from COVID thanks to countless numbers who fought in another way, they were on the front lines of the health care facilities and also the vaccine development/production laboratories to get COVID past us. While we have not totally eliminated the threat, we have gained much of our 'independence' once again and can this year celebrate July 4th. COVID cost many lives, and so it is appropriate we remember those live lost as well at this time of celebrating our 'independence'.
In recognizing all who have done so much to provide the greatest place on the face of the planet for us to live, please salute in honor of 'our flag' as it is proudly raised remembering all who believe that 'we the People' have the 'rights of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness' because we all do have the 'unalienable right that all (of us) are created equal'.
A true celebration of the 4th-of-July Holiday is recognizing that as Americans we are indeed free to enjoy this tremendous land we live in and to pursue a life for each of ourselves through ambition and hard work, from sea to shining sea.
So, from all of us here at Insightful Accountant, have a Happy and Safe Independence Day Holiday.
