The Cloud Summit for 2014 kicked-off with a tour of one of American Internet Services' data centers that is the facility host of Cloud-9 Real Time's data hosting operations. This 80,000 square foot cloud services data center located in the San Diego area of Kearny Mesa serves as the company's headquarters.

AIS Data Center
American Internet Services Lightwave Data Center facility features 'caged areas' containing each client's data servers within their secure facility.
It is an SSAE 16-compliant, SOC 1,2 and 3 audited facility that features 9.1 Megawatts of power, N+1 or better redundancy on all data center systems, and stringent security protocols as evidenced by the fact that I still think they have my ID (just kidding). The facility has both battery back-up and 3 emergency generators capable of powering the entire facility for up to 72 hours if outside power is lost. High efficiency cooling supplies both primary and redundant air conditioning of all of the facilities 'rack space'. Seven different fiber providers supply internet connectivity and insure adequate bandwidth even if multiple providers fail.
To maximize reliability AIS operates its own redundant optical network which allows real-time service delivery from multiple AIS facilities; AIS data centers are located in San Diego, Phoenix and Los Angeles. In addition AIS operates a private multi-protocol switching backbone built on top of its redundant optical network.
Cloud Summit participants had the opportunity to view not only the infrastructure associated with the facility but also the various 'caged areas' that accommodate customer servers within the controlled environment.
Following the tour, the Cloud Summit attendees were treated to an opening reception within the exhibit area of the Westin Gaslamp Quarter hotel featuring exhibits by Cloud9 Real Time, Intuit, Bill & Pay, 2020 Group USA, Cloud Consultancy, ShareFile, Bill.com, OfficeTools Professional, Avalara, Crexendo, SurePrep, FundingGates, Sage and Fannit Marketing, among others.
Tomorrow (Thur. 9//18) begins the real 'meat and potatoes' of this Summit. Over the next two days keynote speakers including Jim McGinnis who heads up the Accountant and Advisor Group at Intuit, along with Orvel Ray Wilson, Senior Partner of the Guerilla Group will be joined by Gregory Lafollette of CPA2Biz, Doug Sleeter of the Sleeter Group, Sabrina Parsons of Palo Alto Software, Joe Woodard of Woodard Consulting, and Robert Chandler of Cloud9 Real Time.
A variety of breakout sessions will also be provided on both Thursday and Friday. Stay tuned for more updates from Cloud Summit 2014.
