Alternate 1099 Review Report Idea

Thanks for this article. Even though the Desktop version has a few 1099 reports, they've never been enough for me. So in both Desktop and online versions, I create a customized version of the Transaction Detail by Account report, which I Sort/Total by vendor name and then filter the distribution accounts to only the accounts that would require 1099 reporting. This way you can peruse ALL vendors, even those you haven't yet tagged as being 1099 vendors (and those that aren't 1099 vendors, which you simply ignore on the report). This way you can catch any vendors that slipped through the cracks and need to be tagged as 1099 vendors. I export the report into Excel, adding notes to explain why a vendor isn't a 1099 vendor, color coding the ones that are (green if I have W-9s on them and yellow if I still need their info). I then add a formula to add up all the 1099 amounts to reach a grand total that should match my 1096. I keep this report as supporting documentation in case questions ever arise.

Informative with Great Humor!

Thanks, Liz, for this great article! Assisting clients with 1099's is always a challenge because the process seems to change every year! :-/ But your article provides the info we need to quickly (and intelligently!) assist our clients with 1099's for TY2016! PS: love the pictures of your twins! ;-)
