What If: I try to scan a Barcode into the New QBO SKU field?

Thanks Murph

Another reason why QBO is not 'ready for prime time' inventory. The only people convinced that it is, are the Intuit marketing people. All us users say, 'NOT!'

It's getting better, day-by-day, though....

Intuit is actually putting far more focus into improving 'basic inventory' functionality in QBO then they are at expanding inventory functionality in ANY version of desktop, including QBES-Advanced Inventory.

I really believe they feel that QBO should at least support a level of inventory functionality (without any App add-ons) of at least the capabilities of QB-Pro (desktop), and in many ways the current QBO product actually goes beyond, like the ability to search for an item by name/number, description or SKU (you won't be doing that in QB Desktop products).

Beyond that, the variety of Apps, from SOS Inventory to Exact On-line, from Dear Inventory to Fishbowl for QBO, you can pretty well get 'what ever level of inventory/manufacturing capabilities you need.

Thanks for investigating this Murph. It was my first thought when the SKU field was introduced.
Does it allow Products to be entered in via a bar-code scanner? As opposed to manual entry or file import.
So your testing indicates that the product CAN be added as a new product by scanning the SKU, but when wanting to complete a Sales Receipt for example, the scanner reading does not populate the Product/Service field.

Not Exactly

When you scan to fill in a form, the SKU is identified from the Barcode scan, but it does not self-populate, you have to pick it from the drop-down list when it is displayed. (But I got the same results even when attempting to key an SKU entered from a manual source.)

Thank you Murph!

Thank for testing that Murph!
Do you know if the bugs still occur if you had the barcode number as the name of the product?

Lisa Pierpont more than 1 year ago

Sorry - I didn't try that

Perhaps I can fit that into another testing session in the near future.
