The QuickBooks TLG File Revisited

Backup does not reduce TLG file size.

Hi. I was under the impression that a large TLG file was a problem because it takes so long for the two files to communicate. So when I see that the TLG file is very large , I do a manual backup with complete verification. One time this caused the TLG to DOUBLE in size to 6 GBs for company file that was less than one. The diamond people had me restore a portable file which reset a new TLG and the old huge one was gone. So I still don't understand why the backup didn't reduce the TLG file. Need to connect the dots. Thank you for consistently fantastic information.

When Back-up doesn't reset the TLG it usually means a data problem.

If the TLG file is not being reset when you perform a fully verified manual backup of QuickBooks, it typically means there is a data problem that may not be of a 'error reporting level' that provokes a Verify failure message and prevents the back-up. You need to review the QBWin.log file after a Verify run to determine if you have data corruption issues.
