QuickBooks 2014 - What Do You Think?

A few months ago many of you contributed comments to our article asking what you would like to see in QuickBooks 2014. Now we want to know if you got what you wished for? We also want to know what You LIKE and what You DON'T LIKE about QuickBooks 2014? With more than 40 new features, as well as improvements to existing functionality, Intuitive Accountant wants to hear from you - give us your opinions on QuickBooks 2014 by posting comments below.

checks and register view

I do not like the way the account balance is displayed in large bold type at the bottom of the register.
I have to work where others can see my screen and that can be seen by anyone coming up from behind. I do not like the drop down fields in the check writing either. I especially dislike the way you have to scroll to see the splits at the bottom. I need to see them all at once, this is making my work much harder.

Onsite Access to Accountant's Tools

I have a question for Murph: how do you tie your laptop into your client's network? I love the idea of using my own Accountant's copy at a client's office, but if the client has the recommended wired network, I have no clue how to tie into it. Most of my clients have outside IT consultants, so I can't easily ask them. Can you provide instructions? Mahalo nui loa.

An article 'in' itself.

Obviously you need to have the basic 'networking' skills to be able to set-up your computer on not only the physical LAN network but the network configuration (be that a peer-to-peer or domain). It maybe a situation in which you need to work with the IT consultants for each client so that you can have their network as an option on your laptop log-in where you would select 'the domain' just the way you do if you have your own domain network (although many times user profiles do not display the domain if you only have a single option).

We could probably spend two or three articles on these options, and perhaps we will in editions to come.

Onsite access to all Accountants tools

I upgraded a new client from 2012 Pro to 2014 Premier Manufacturing. Everything works great with Inventory and Build Assemblies, they are happy with it. When I found out they hadn't entered their CPA's 2012 EOY journal entries, I offered to do it. Plus I reclassified some Fixed Asset and COGS accounts to match their taxes better. However, even though I was logged in as External Accountant, I was not able to access Reclassify Accounts, Working Trial Balance, nor have the checkbox for adjusting entries. I notified Intuit last Friday.

We should be able to enter our ProAdvisor User Id & Password when we log in thru External Accountant and be able to access our tools.

Not all of CDR works in External Accountant

Intuit never really intended to give the External Accountant feature set of the Client Data Review. I think it was just to 'be a taste' of the features available using the 'Accountant Versions' of the software.

While the feature set has improved, there still are a lot of things that the External Accountant simply can not do.

I have Accountant, but I am not loading at the client site.

I have Accountant already, I don't need a "taste"! I need to be able to access my tools when I am onsite. Do you mean I have to load my QB Accountant at each of my clients for whom I go onsite? That is why I said QB ProAdvisors should be able to type their Intuit User Id and Password when they log in as an External Accountant to access the EXTRA tools, not just because they logged in as External Accountant

I always carry my laptop....

I always take my laptop with my own 'Accountant versions' of the software, then simply tie-into their network and access their Company File. But also remember that many of the CDR features require you to be in single-user mode.

As far as what Intuit allows in the way of CDR features under the External Accountant, I will be happy to pass along your suggestions next time I talk to someone on that team.

QB 2014

It is very nice to be able to see emails sent to clients. But there sure are still a lot of bugs to be worked out with email. It is much more difficult to redesign templates and what you had before does not transfer well when you upgrade.
I find the new ribbon above forms very confusing and if you don't have your screen resolution set to the smallest option that ribbon takes over the screen and you have about 4 rows available for typing. Not the best design.
