R8 update install has error message

When downloaded the update loads on close & reopen of QB but then you get an error message saying you cannot run QB because its already open this is a new message not seen before.
Simple close & reopen of the updated program stops it and QB is now in R8 mode.
Hopefully the error is fixed in the autupdate. An QB works ok.

How will this update install?

Glad an update is available and am keeping my fingers cross that it will be "clean". With this new release update, I'm looking for the following answers:

-- if a client downloaded but did not install R7, what happens? Will the R8 download (manually or automatic when it becomes available)? Will it ignore the R7? Or do they have to install the R7 they downloaded and then R8 will fix it?

-- if a client installed R7 then did the manual "fix" that Charlie Russell mentioned in one of his blog articles (rename and replace a DLL file), will they need to uninstall QuickBooks, rename the remaining QuickBooks folders (thus a "clean" uninstall), and then download and install QuickBooks with R8?

-- Do you know if QuickBooks R8 is the current software download for new installations or re-installations?

I want to make this update as smooth as possible for my clients. I still will advise them to wait a while to install unless they already have and are experiencing issues.

Regarding the R8 manual update...

The R8 maintenance release is manual download only, was not in the 'full product' download at the time it was issued for manual download.

QuickBooks installs the last 'release file' downloaded for auto updates, if auto updates are selected for install.

You do not need to uninstall QB and then reinstall to update to R8. I am still suggesting that users 'hold-off' installing R8 unless absolutely necessary. I will just say that my friend Charlie Russell feels confident that R8 is resolving problems with R7, but he is also suggesting that clients may wish to wait if they are not in need of corrections.
